Innovation Capability Pathways
Role-based routes through the five stages for ambassadors, practitioners, facilitators, core teams and leaders.
Capability transfer and enterprise academies
Develop internal practitioners, facilitators, champions and leaders who can continue the work without permanent supplier dependency.
Capability transfer
The Innovation Capability Pathway is the structure: five stages, role-based routes, evidence-based recognition. Capability transfer is the commitment behind it. Every engagement is designed so that the organisation ends up with people who can frame challenges, run sprints, facilitate workshops, assess evidence and govern a portfolio without us in the room.
Enterprise academies scale this across an organisation with internal facilitators accredited to deliver the pathway and a Capability Portfolio that gives sponsors a live view of application.
Role-based routes through the five stages for ambassadors, practitioners, facilitators, core teams and leaders.
A tailored academy delivering the pathway across an organisation, with internal facilitators, assessment and sponsor reporting.
Accredit internal trainers to deliver Digital Introduction and Innovation Processes to their own cohorts.
Coaching and observed practice for people who run workshops and sprints internally.
The assessed programme for facilitators who design and lead challenge-led interventions independently.
The evidence system that records application, supports assessment and reports progress to sponsors.
Deployment models
The difference is scale, tailoring, live application, coaching, assessment and reporting.
01
One programme, one cohort, one live challenge each
Best for: A team or unit that needs a specific capability now, or an organisation testing the approach before committing further.
02
A role-based pathway for a cohort, with sponsored challenges and coaching
Best for: Developing practitioners, facilitators or leaders for a defined part of the organisation with visible results.
03
The full pathway run at organisational scale, with internal facilitators
Best for: Organisations building innovation and AI capability as a permanent asset rather than a programme.
How an academy is built
A typical enterprise academy reaches the point where the organisation runs its own cohorts within twelve months.
Weeks 1 to 6
1Design
Diagnose maturity and capability needs. Map roles to the pathway. Agree the challenge portfolio, governance, assessment standard and reporting. Adapt materials to your language and context.
Months 2 to 6
2Launch
First cohorts run with Innovation Network facilitators. Sponsored live challenges. Internal facilitator candidates co-facilitate and begin Master Facilitator development.
Months 6 to 12
3Transfer
Internal facilitators lead cohorts with our assurance. Internal assessors trained and moderated. Champions extend AI workflows. Dashboard reporting to sponsors.
Year 2 onwards
4Sustain
The organisation runs the academy. We provide moderation, senior sessions, new modules and periodic quality assurance as required.
Roles in an academy
Tens to hundreds per organisation
Explain the organisation’s innovation approach, identify opportunities, frame early challenges and support local engagement.
Cohorts of 12 to 20, repeated across units
Apply the complete process to live challenges and lead innovation, delivery or improvement activity.
A small group of 4 to 12 per organisation
Design and facilitate innovation workshops, sprints and challenge-led interventions independently.
A core team of 3 to 8
Coach teams, govern challenge portfolios, assure quality and build organisation-wide capability.
Leadership teams of 6 to 16
Translate strategy into challenge portfolios, make evidence-led investment decisions and create the conditions for innovation to scale.
Assessment and reporting
The Capability Portfolio records application for every participant and rolls up into cohort and academy reporting.
01
Profile
A diagnostic and learner profile establish where each person starts, which role they hold and what they need to be able to do.
02
Prepare
Before a programme, participants identify the live challenge they will work on and the stakeholders around it. Sponsors confirm it matters.
03
Apply
During and after the programme, the methods are used on the challenge. The work is real, and so is the risk of learning that an assumption was wrong.
04
Evidence
Work products are recorded: the framed challenge, the map, the prototype, the experiment result, the backlog, the roadmap, the facilitation design.
05
Reflect
A short reflective review records what was learned, what would be done differently and what decision the evidence supports.
06
Progress
An assessor reviews the evidence. Recognition is awarded, the next stage is recommended and sponsors see what has been applied.
Courses create knowledge. Applied evidence creates capability.

Results
Defence and government
UK Ministry of Defence
A structured pathway, funded through UK Defence Innovation and the Defence Academy, that develops innovation practitioners across ranks and functions and turns training into applied work on live defence challenges.
Government
A government ministry in the Middle East
A cohort of Innovation Ambassadors trained and coached to break down departmental silos and run structured sprints inside a large national ministry.
Buyer questions
The Innovation Capability Pathway has one common foundation and role-based routes through five stages. Ambassadors complete the foundation. Practitioners continue to a live-challenge programme and specialist modules. Facilitators go on to Master Facilitator. Leaders take the Digital Introduction and Strategic Innovation Leadership. Everyone shares the same vocabulary; nobody sits through a module designed for another role.
Every participant works on a live challenge and records work products in a Capability Portfolio: framed challenges, prototypes, experiment results, backlogs, roadmaps, facilitation designs. Certification is awarded only after workplace application has been assessed. Sponsors receive cohort and academy reports showing what was produced, decided and changed.
Yes. A facilitated cohort adapts the sequence, challenge selection and materials. An enterprise academy goes further, building your roles, language, governance and challenge portfolio into a branded programme delivered with your own accredited facilitators.
AI is embedded at every stage of the pathway, from research synthesis and ideation to backlog development and portfolio scenarios, with human ownership of decisions, source checking and information-handling rules built in. Alongside the pathway, AI Productivity Sprints and the AI Champions Programme redesign real workflows and measure the gains.
The Master Facilitator programme develops internal facilitators through practice and an assessed capstone: three days of designing and running real workshop segments with feedback, then a complete intervention facilitated for a real team and observed by an assessor. Certified Workshop Facilitator is awarded at the applied stage and Master Facilitator after the advanced capstone.
At programme level, a summary of challenges worked on, work products produced and recognition earned. For cohorts and academies, progress reports at each stage and a dashboard covering participation, certification, challenge outcomes and benefits.
Tell us the roles, the scale and the timeframe. We will come back with a pathway map, a deployment recommendation and what the first ninety days would look like.
