The strategic problem this addresses
Capability that depends on an external facilitator is not capability. Organisations need people inside who can design an intervention for a live challenge, run it well and assess the evidence it produces.
Intended audience
- Internal facilitators
- Learning and development professionals
- Core teams and capability specialists
- Experienced Innovation Practitioners
Prerequisites
- Innovation Practitioner
- Certified Innovation Professional (recommended)
- Experience of at least one live challenge team
Duration and delivery format
3 days plus an assessed capstone. In person, cohort of 8 to 12, followed by observed facilitation in the workplace.
Capability outcomes
By the end of the programme and its workplace application, participants can:
- 01Design a complete intervention from challenge brief to outputs, timings and materials
- 02Facilitate workshops and sprints with authority, neutrality and pace
- 03Handle difficult dynamics, senior participants and stalled teams
- 04Use AI to accelerate workshop design and output capture without losing quality
- 05Assess participant evidence consistently against the pathway standards
Course experience
Three days of intensive practice. Participants design and run segments of real workshops for each other, receive structured feedback from assessors and peers, and refine their approach each round.
The programme covers the full repertoire: framing sessions, Design Sprints, decision workshops, strategic alignment and challenge-led interventions, with attention to the difference between running an exercise and creating a decision.
The capstone follows in the workplace: a complete intervention designed and facilitated for a real team, observed by an assessor, with a reflective review and a facilitation portfolio.

Where AI supports this programme
Workshop design, Output capture, Scenario analysis. Human ownership of decisions, source checking and your organisation’s information-handling rules apply throughout. How we govern AI use.
Practical outputs
Work products recorded in the Capability Portfolio.
- Complete intervention design
- Observed facilitation
- Assessor feedback
- Reflective review
- Facilitation portfolio
Workplace application
The assessed capstone is a live intervention: a workshop, sprint or challenge-led session designed for a real team, facilitated by the participant and observed by an assessor.
Assessment and recognition
Observed facilitation against the facilitator standard, a reviewed intervention design, a reflective review and a facilitation portfolio. Progression from Certified Workshop Facilitator to Master Facilitator requires the advanced capstone.
Certified Workshop Facilitator, progressing to Master Facilitator
Certified Workshop Facilitator is awarded at the applied stage. Master Facilitator follows the advanced assessed capstone.
Position within the wider pathway
The Sustain stage for practitioners. It is the route by which the organisation stops depending on us, and the qualification held by the internal facilitators who run enterprise academies.

Enterprise deployment options
Facilitated cohort
A role-based pathway for a cohort, with sponsored challenges and coaching
Best for: Developing practitioners, facilitators or leaders for a defined part of the organisation with visible results.
Enterprise capability academy
The full pathway run at organisational scale, with internal facilitators
Best for: Organisations building innovation and AI capability as a permanent asset rather than a programme.
