How we work

The Innovation Capability System

Five method loops, one facilitation capability, AI and delivery management underneath. Every programme on the pathway teaches part of it. Master Facilitators can run all of it.

One system, not five methods

Why the loops are drawn together

Most organisations have met these methods separately: a design thinking course here, an agile transformation there, a continuous improvement team somewhere else. Drawn together, they are one movement from problem to deployment. Design Thinking frames the problem and generates options. Lean tests the assumptions. A Design Sprint compresses both into a week. Agile builds and ships what was validated. Continuous Improvement keeps it improving once it runs.

Two capabilities run underneath every loop. AI accelerates the research, synthesis, prototyping, testing and reporting. Delivery management carries the result into the organisation: scope, plan, deliver, track, benefits. And one capability runs across the top: the facilitator who can frame, guide, challenge, align and get a room to a decision.

01

Diagnose

Diagnose workflows, challenges, maturity and capability needs. We start with what the organisation is trying to change, where it is stuck and which roles need which capability.

02

Sprint

Sprint on live work and priority challenges. Teams learn the methods by using them on problems the organisation needs solved, with AI accelerating the work.

03

Embed

Embed reusable workflows, tools, playbooks and habits. What worked in the sprint becomes the standard way of working, documented and governed.

04

Transfer

Transfer capability to internal champions, practitioners and facilitators. The organisation runs the next cycle itself, with our support where it wants it.

The five loops

Each loop, what it produces and where it is taught

Problem to solution

Design Thinking

  1. Empathize
  2. Define
  3. Ideate
  4. Prototype
  5. Test

Understand the people and the problem before committing to a solution. Empathise, define, ideate, prototype and test.

Use it when: The problem is not yet clear, users are not yet understood, or the organisation is about to build something nobody has validated.

Work products

  • Stakeholder and user maps
  • Framed challenge
  • Prioritised concepts
  • Low-fidelity prototypes
  • Test findings

Solution to deployment

Lean / Lean Startup

  1. Experiment
  2. Test
  3. Learn

Treat every concept as a set of assumptions. Experiment, test with real users and learn before investing.

Use it when: A concept exists and the riskiest assumption behind it has not been tested with evidence.

Work products

  • Assumption maps
  • Experiment plans
  • Validation results
  • Evidence-based recommendations

Taught in

Deployment

Agile (Scrum)

  1. Plan
  2. Sprint
  3. Review
  4. Retrospective

Deliver a validated solution iteratively. Plan, sprint, review, retrospect, and adjust the backlog on what was learned.

Use it when: A solution is validated and now has to be built and shipped by a team working in increments.

Work products

  • Product goal
  • Prioritised backlog
  • Sprint plans
  • Reviews and retrospectives
  • Working increments

Deployment and sustained use

Continuous Improvement

  1. Measure
  2. Improve
  3. Standardise
  4. Review

Once something runs, keep it improving. Measure, improve, standardise and review.

Use it when: An established process has accumulated rework, delay and workarounds, and needs owners, measures and a rhythm of improvement.

Work products

  • Current and future state process maps
  • Root-cause analysis
  • Improvement experiments
  • Sustainment plans

AI-Enabled Productivity

Research · Synthesis · Ideation · Prototyping · Testing · Reporting

AI accelerates the work at every point in the system: research planning, synthesis of evidence, ideation, prototyping, test analysis and reporting. People own every decision, sources are checked and information is handled within the organisation’s rules.

AI enablement and governance

Into the organisation

Delivery Management

Scope · Plan · Deliver · Track · Benefits

The discipline that carries a validated solution into the organisation: scope it, plan it, deliver it, track it and measure the benefits. Governance, risk, stakeholder engagement and adoption planning sit here.

System and pathway

How the system maps to the five stages

The pathway is the learner’s journey through the system. Each stage adds loops and layers until, at Sustain, internal facilitators can run the whole of it and leaders govern what enters it.

The Innovation Capability Pathway
  1. 1

    Aware

Orientation to the whole system, the learner’s role in it and the first challenge.

  2. 2

    Align

Design Thinking and Lean on a live challenge, with AI in the research and synthesis.

  3. 3

    Apply

A full Design Sprint validated with Lean experiments, ending in a decision pitch.

  4. 4

    Deliver

Agile, Continuous Improvement or Delivery Management, depending on the role.

  5. 5

    Sustain

The Master Facilitator capability across every loop, and leadership governance of the portfolio.

Where would your organisation enter the system?

Tell us the challenge and the roles involved. We will say which loop to start with, which programme teaches it and what the first sprint would produce.
