When a team reaches the Deliver stage of the pathway, it chooses a specialist module. Two of the three are regularly confused, and choosing the wrong one wastes two days.
Continuous Improvement optimises an established process
Use it when something already runs and runs badly. A process has accumulated rework, delay, workarounds and hand-offs nobody can explain. The methods are process mapping, waste analysis, root-cause analysis, future-state design and small improvement experiments with a sustainment plan.
The output is a measured improvement to a process that already exists, owned by the people who run it.
Innovation Delivery, Change and Adoption implements something new
Use it when a solution has been validated and now has to be built, adopted and measured. There is no established process to improve; there is a change to land. The methods are delivery roadmapping, governance design, risk and dependency management, stakeholder engagement, adoption planning and benefits management.
The output is a validated solution moving into implementation and sustained use, with a governance model and a benefits framework that sponsors recognise.
A simple test
Ask whether the thing you are working on exists today. If it does and the problem is how it performs, choose Continuous Improvement. If it does not yet exist and the problem is how to make it real, choose Innovation Delivery, Change and Adoption.
Teams responsible for building the solution, rather than governing its adoption, usually need the third module, Agile, Scrum and Systems Thinking, which turns the solution into a product goal, a backlog and a delivery rhythm inside the system it has to work in.
